The proud family: stronger and more proud will bring high-voltage star power to the long-awaited rebirth of the breakthrough blockbuster animated series, The proud family, which is now turning 20, will launch in 2022 on Disney +. The streamer today released a new featurette featuring some of these stellar guest voices as they reflect on what the groundbreaking original series has meant to them.

The voice cast will feature some of the biggest names in music and entertainment, including Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Chance the rapper, Normani, Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton), Tiffany haddish (Like a boss), Lena waithe (Master of None), Anthony anderson (Blackish), Gabrielle Union (The best of LA), Debbie Allen (Grey’s Anatomy), James Pickens Jr. (Grey’s Anatomy), Courtney B. Vance (Lovecraft Country), Jane lynch (Joy), Marsai Martin (Blackish), Jaden smith (After Earth), Glynn Turman (The house of lies), Lamorne morris (New girl), Brenda song (Doll face), Tina Knowles (Black is king), Eva longoria (Desperate housewives), Holly Robinson Peete (21 rue du saut), Al roker (Cloudy with a chance of meatballs), beauty influencer and social media personality Bretman Rock, Olympic gold medalist gymnasts Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez and Dominique dawes, and much more.

Additional recurring stars include Asante Blackk (It’s us) as Penny’s boyfriend, Kareem; rapper Artist “A Boogie” Dubose as Maya’s playful brother, Francis “KG” Leibowitz-Jenkins; Raquel Lee Bolleau (Hollywood real husbands) who is reprising her role as Nubia Gross; and Marcus T. Paulk (red tails), who reprizes her role as Penny’s classmate, Myron.

In honor of the 20th anniversary of The proud family today, a few revival stars share what the iconic original series meant to them, including Normani who calls her grandmother Suga Mama “because that’s literally what my house looked like.” Johnson added: “It was a big part of my childhood and I hold it very dear to my heart.” Blackk shared, “The different characters and personalities on the show reflected what was going on with me.” And Palmer said, “Even though it was on a children’s network, it still had the right amount of advantage to make it accessible to everyone.”

The proud family: stronger and more proud will pick up the story of its central character, Penny Proud, and include her crazy family: parents Oscar and Trudy, twin siblings BeBe and CeCe, and grandmother Suga Mama (and Puff!). Of course, it wouldn’t be The proud family without the loyal team of Penny, Dijonay Jones, LaCienega Boulevardez and Zoey Howzer, among others.

Currently in production at Disney Television Animation, The proud family: stronger and more proud is produced by Bruce W. Smith (The princess and the Frog) and Ralph Farquhar (Moesha), who both helmed the original series. Calvin Brown, Jr. (Moesha) is Co-Executive Producer and Editor-in-Chief, Jan Hirota (Big Hero 6 The Series) is the producer and Eastwood Wong (Carmen sandiego) is artistic director.

All seasons of The proud family, which debuted on Disney Channel in 2001, are currently available on Disney +. September 15, 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the popular series.
