VtSBDC Names Sarah Kearns 2022 State Star
Vermont Business Magazine State Director Linda Rossi announced that Sarah Kearns has been selected as the Vermont Small Business Development Center’s (VtSBDC) 2022 State Star. The award, given annually and nationally recognized, honors a member of the organization’s team for their outstanding commitment to small business success.
Kearns is a statewide advisor for strategic projects as well as Addison County’s regional business advisor. She specializes in working with college-age entrepreneurs in Vermont.
“Sarah is passionate about the mission of VtSBDC and is a great advocate and representative for our organization,” Rossi said. “She consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership and has helped advance our strategic priority of serving college-aged Vermonters. She helps young entrepreneurs achieve their dreams by offering real-world guidance and compassion. Additionally, Sarah has been instrumental in facilitating the VtSBDC’s Start Your Own Business workshops, as well as basic skills training as part of onboarding new SBDC Advisors throughout New England. . »
Selected as a 2022 State Star by VtSBDC’s team of advisors, Kearns’ colleagues report that she is enthusiastic, collaborative and creative.
Kearns has worked for VtSBDC for over a decade, starting as a consultant and becoming a full-time advisor in 2018. She comes from a family steeped in the creative economy and previously had her own jewelry import business. His professional experience includes working in large corporations and start-ups. Prior to moving to Vermont in 2006, Kearns worked in the Boston area for Converse, Inc., focusing on business development in Latin America. After her time at Converse, she worked for a series of start-ups primarily on consumer product strategy and business development. During this time, she also completed her MBA at Babson College. Kearns speaks Spanish and has an advanced command of French.
Kearns and her husband David are residents of Middlebury, and they have a son at UVM and a daughter in Syracuse.

Kearns will be honored at the America’s Small Business Development Center (ASBDC) National Conference in San Diego in September.
