This Harbor Acres home just sold for over $15 million in cash
The real estate market could cool down a bit, with more inventory than last year. However, sales of ultra-luxury homes, like this one in Harbor Acres, are still going strong and, according to the most recent data from the Sarasota-Manatee Realtors Association45% of transactions concluded on single-family homes were paid in cash.
And 1309 Vista Drive is one of them. It was listed for $18 million earlier this year and brought in $15.5 million yesterday at a cash close. The buyer is unknown, but the seller was Cynthia Kaye Wilson, formerly Cynthia Garrison. She was married to the late Sheridan Garrison, founder of national trucking company American Freightways, which sold for $1.2 billion to FedEx Corp. in 2005. Wilson bought the property in 2005 and eventually demolished the existing house to build this two-story French. provincial-style home in 2010. With 230 feet of Sarasota waterfront, it sits on nearly an acre and a half, spans 8,452 square feet under air, and has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and two half bathrooms, a swimming pool and a jacuzzi.
The house is a collaboration between architect-designer Thorning Little and luxury home builder Bruce Saba. Inside, it brims with Old World elegance and is dotted with bespoke features and materials imported from France, such as roof tiles and ornamentation, antique white oak and stone flooring, carved cabinetry by hand and interior doors. Outside, inside the castle’s iron gates, winged cherubs and lion statues watch over the grounds, among other Roman gods that dot the vast gardens.
The Belgian Embassy’s restored front doors make you wonder if flip-flops are too casual to cross the threshold and walk under the 14-foot ceilings with custom treatments and antique chandeliers (there’s even a chandelier in the gym). The interior walls are also hand plastered. More modern touches include two elevators and an air-conditioned three-car garage.
In the past 12 months, sales of similarly priced single-family homes in Sarasota County include an $11.5 million sale at 1313 Westway Drive on Lido Shores (at the time, the most expensive sale in year), another sale of Harbor Acres on Hillview Drive for $17.5 million – so far the most expensive in the area, ever – and a $10.1 million sale at 171 S Washington Drive onto St. Armands Circle.
Ryan Ackerman represented the seller with Coldwell Banker Realty, and the buyer was represented Barbara May with Michael Saunders & Company.
