Princess Diana had championed the international campaign against landmines. This worthy cause has been put in jeopardy as the UK government has drastically cut funding. Funding is expected to drop by 80 percent, which will severely affect the program.

According to humanitarian organizations, this drop in funding is a “catastrophic aid collapse”.

UK support has been used to help disarm landmines in countries like Iraq, Lebanon, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Myanmar and South Sudan. This support has helped many people over the years and protected them from the danger of landmines.

Two years ago Prince Harry visited Angola and followed in Princess Diana’s footsteps. He previously commented on the UK’s role in mine clearance. The United Kingdom had supported demining: “thanks to the funding and expertise provided by specialist British organizations such as the HALO Trust and Mines Advisory Group”, according to Harry.

If Princess Diana was still alive, Harry thinks she will still fight for this cause.
