Prince Harry and Meghan Markle named to Time’s 100 most influential people list in heavily airbrushed cover
THE PRINCE Harry and his wife Meghan have been named among the world’s 100 most influential people – in a magazine that appears to have heavily edited images of the couple.
Yesterday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the cover of respected American magazine Time, on the occasion of Harry’s 37th birthday.
Glossy photos showed him standing behind his 40-year-old wife, his arms over his right shoulder.
Time editor-in-chief Dilys Ng said the portrait captures “the powerful dynamic of the Sussexes as equal partners”.
But Harry looked wrinkle-free and the couple’s eyes were shining. The photo was mocked online, with one photographer tweeting, “Terrible retouching work. They look CGI.
Another wrote: “This photo looks photoshopped. Also, the way they are positioned is very revealing: this is Meghan’s show and Harry is just the supporting actor.
Legendary Royal Sun photographer Arthur Edwards said: “Harry always had more than a few laugh lines around his eyes.
“But if you look at the photo, the creases look like they’ve been airbrushed. Her hair has also been styled. They certainly did more work on Harry than Meghan. She just looks very makeup. “
But it’s not just the images that appear to have been airbrushed – in a waking profile that accompanies their entry under ‘Icons,’ their break with the royal family has also been glossed over.
It was written by Spanish chef José Andrés, a close friend of the Sussexes whose charity World Central Kitchen is supported by the couple.
He wrote: “In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the Duke and Duchess have compassion for people they don’t know. They don’t just express their opinion. They run towards the struggle.
“Taking action is not the easy choice for a young Duke and Duchess who have been blessed with birth and talent, and burned with fame.
“It would be much safer to take advantage of their good fortune and remain silent.
“It’s not what Harry and Meghan do, or who they are. They are turning compassion into boots on the pitch through their Archewell Foundation.”
