Portland Police Need Your Help To Find Suspect Who Robbed 93-Year-Old Man | Local News
PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – Stan Baumhofer says he walks with his walker every day. He was out one day last month when he was targeted by a thief. Luckily he wasn’t hurt, but he says he was in shock because it’s the first time something like this has happened to him.
The morning of January 25andBaumhofer left US Bank on Southwest 18th Ave. and Yamhill St. Then, a few blocks across from Providence Park, the unthinkable happened.
“I barely felt a nudge by my hip. He took my diary out of my pocket. I had a shorter jacket, but the pocket was visible. I don’t know how he knew I had money in this book, in this pocket, unless he was watching in the bank,” says Stan Baumhofer.
Officers responded within three minutes of Baumhofer’s 911 call. He had $1,000 cash in his wallet. This money is his only Social Security income.
Security cameras show the suspect buying coffee at Coco Donuts. The video shows a bald man walking with a limp and wearing black clothes. Time has passed, but Baumhofer is still upset.
“The anger built up a bit more. Disappointment that someone does this or lives this way. Why pick on someone so old? I think we should have more respect for our fellow 90-year-olds.

Baumhofer doesn’t expect his money back, but he hopes to recover family photos that were in his wallet. He also says that this event will not prevent him from running errands.
He has some words of wisdom if the thief thinks of doing it again.
“Be a little more honest with your life. Get a job and don’t steal. Don’t take or deprive others of the money they’ve earned,” Baumhofer says.
People have reached out to help, but Baumhofer says if people want to help, you can donate to the Sunshine Division in his name.
And if you have any information, you can call the Portland Police Department.
