Newcastle United’s pre-season tour now canceled – Report

For some time there have been media reports that a Newcastle United pre-season tour of the United States was due to take place this summer.

No details had yet been detailed, just that the NUFC first team was returning to the pond for the first time in preseason since the summer of 2015.

Now it has been revealed by The Mail that Newcastle United and Wolves have agreed to be part of a four-team tournament in July, with La Liga clubs Villarreal and Valencia taking part.

The tournament was to bear the title “Ohio Cup” according to the newspaper’s exclusive, with plans reportedly at a very advanced stage, with matches split between stadiums in Columbus and Cincinnati.

However… The Mail says that Ohio Cup has now been cancelled, leaving the four clubs to seek other summer arrangements.

The newspaper appears confident of Newcastle’s intended implications and that the tournament has indeed been called off. However, they have no concrete information on the reasons for this cancellation, speculating that there were concerns about the number of tickets that would be sold and / or claiming that MLS approval had not been given, what would be needed before such a tournament. was allowed to take place.

With Newcastle United’s pre-season tour plan apparently now banned, Eddie Howe says he is looking for other options. The Mail stresses that another trip to Saudi Arabia is unlikely to be considered due to the temperatures. I just googled it and apparently it’s rare that daily temperatures in Saudi Arabia in July don’t reach at least 105 degrees Farenheit (over 40 degrees Celsius).

The newspaper report claims Wolves are still expected to travel to the United States and are trying to arrange matches with MLS clubs.

With MLS in July in the middle of their league season, this makes organizing friendlies very difficult for Premier League clubs. Newcastle United’s final pre-season tour of 2015 saw the NUFC take on a Mexican side and two local teams who played below MLS level.

After this tour of the United States in the summer of 2015 under the direction of Steve McClaren, Newcastle United was of course relegated…

Predictably, the newspaper are trying to make big drama out of their ‘exclusivity’ with claims that Newcastle United are now in ‘disarray’ with their summer plans, however, even if that isn’t useful if the scheduled friendlies do not go ahead, I doubt. it will be a serious problem to find alternatives. Especially with the club now run properly and no more pinch-a-penny decisions that could ultimately cost the team dearly when it comes to preparing well for next season.

There are only eleven weeks between seasons and so the players have planned a maximum of six weeks off, possibly just five, before the start of pre-season.
