Meet the Visit Jax Ambassador: GiGi Lucas

GiGi is a Florida-born world traveler and entrepreneurial “dropout” who decided to move to Jacksonville Beach 4 years ago. After learning to surf at the age of 35 in Costa Rica, she decided to combine her personal passion for the ocean with her professional experience to increase cultural and gender diversity in the surf industry through representation. in media, retail offerings and in the water. In 2018, GiGi officially launched a non-profit organization called SurfearNEGRA with a single goal to #diversifytherange by democratizing the sport to make surfing accessible to all kids, anywhere. GiGi and SurfearNEGRA have already been celebrated in the industry by brands like NAUTICA and Proctor and Gamble, as well as global media like Oprah Magazine, Surfer Magazine and The Drew Barrymore Show.
1. What do you like most about Jacksonville?
I’m more in love with the possibility of Jacksonville. It is a huge city and is well positioned to experience exponential growth in both population and opportunity.
2. What is one thing you tell a visitor to see/do in Jax?
I always tell visitors they MUST visit one of Jacksonville’s many beaches, followed by any meal involving Mayport shrimp!
3. Where is your favorite place to eat?
I’m a big fan of Hangar Bay in Mayport. Who knew Japanese ramen inspired by fried chicken and okra could be so good?
