BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker in New Piers Morgan dig as he claims he doesn’t know who he is in Strictly interview
BBC BREAKFAST’s Dan Walker gave Piers Morgan another dig as he claimed he didn’t know who he was in a Strictly interview.
Dan, 44, takes part in the new series of Strictly and is a partner of Nadiya Bychkova.
Dan has a friendly rivalry with fellow journalist Piers, 56, with the couple regularly swapping beards on social media.
And in an interview with The Sun’s TV Mag as part of its 80-page Strictly Special, Dan got the chance to do another dig at his nemesis.
Asked about his ups and downs with Piers, Dan replied, “Who?
When asked if he was worried about the criticisms Piers would likely send to Dan after dancing, he replied with a simple, “No.”
The ribs have already started online, with Piers taking great pleasure in poking fun at the fact that Strictly’s launch show last weekend had the lowest audience figures in 11 years.
The show was watched by 7 million people, giving it a 44.7% share of live viewership numbers, but that was down from previous years.
Piers retweeted an article on the stats and wrote, “Congratulations @mrdanwalker,” with a thumbs-up emoji.
While Piers wasn’t arguing, the same can’t be said of Dan’s BBC Breakfast co-stars, many of whom have already shown off their sophisticated footwork on the Strictly dance floor.
He said: “They were actually lovely. Carol, who’s the cutest human on the planet anyway, she just said… most of them just said ‘go and enjoy. “
Explaining his decision to participate, Dan said: “I have been working every morning for the past 18 months and there have been so many horrible stories to cover, largely Covid, horrible things in the news, so many of people have had two miserable two years, 18 months, so I think when this opportunity presented itself, I did it Strictly.
“I had been asked to do this before and it never felt right and I just thought, do you know what my kids desperately want me to do, I would like to learn something new and I just want to have a little fun and learn a new skill from someone who is amazing.
“It all fell together at the right time.”
